Philipp Jung sits at a Swiss restaurant in Berlin and waits for his order during a rare two-day stretch at home between touring. Joining him at the table are some new friends from Iceland, where Jung and his partner-in-crime Patrick Bodmer recently holed up to start work on what will hopefully become their full-length album debut.

"It’s going to be finished at some point…we collected all the ideas and it was just good to be isolated from everybody and write songs…[but] it’s going to take another year, for sure. We are the slowest producers in the world!" Jung laughs often, and talks quickly but thoughtfully, pausing only to collect his thoughts. M.A.N.D.Y.’s music can also be considered thoughtful in the delicate balance it maintains—somewhere between robotic rhythms and sweeping melody, the warmth of early house and the icy sheen of modern techno. But for their myriad of well received production work, remixes and mixed CDs (its latest being the excellent thirty-eighth installment for the ever-popular Fabric series), the only thing missing from their catalogue is a full-length artist album.

"Body Language" helped break M.A.N.D.Y. and its Get Physical crew globally (along with DJ T and fellow duo Booka Shade), and it seemingly grew from a boutique label to electronic dance-music fans’ first choice in downloads and mixes.

"At some point [Get Physical] takes off, and people call it a new sound," Jung points out. "We didn’t want to repeat ourselves, you know, like with a formula…if you want to do this for quite a while, you have to change your style." Although the Get Physical gang seems to function as a collective, Jung also brings years of A&R experience with him, spending previous time at majors like Jive and V2. "It’s not that I know what’s good and what is wrong, but I’ve seen a lot of people come and go, so maybe that’s helped as well." He cites new signings like Raz Ohara as evidence of change.

"If it’s gone to shit, at least it’s not like all Get Physical releases are the same," laughs Jung between bites of antipasto. Apparently his food has arrived.
