Tip of the Week
Justice, Diplo

Noah Levine

The here and the now of dance music collide as Philly’s Diplo and French duo Justice team up for this massive show. A prolific DJ, producer, remixer and promoter of upcoming talents, Diplo claims the title "Here" for his ability to take new sounds from around the globe and work them into his mix. Not only taking the sounds he encounters during his travels, Diplo’s worked to promote the local scenes, helping to launch the careers of M.I.A., Bonde Do Role and DJ Blaqstarr. His sound is always moving, just like the packed dance floors he attracts. With the runaway success of their unpronounceable debut "†," Justice is most certainly the "Now" of the club scene. Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay scored a massive hit with the ubiquitous and much-remixed "D.A.N.C.E." and they’ve been causing mayhem on dance floors all over with their other savage beats. Now they’re building a legend with live rig and custom lights. This will not be a night for wallflowers.

Justice performs live and Diplo DJs at The Riviera, 4746 North Racine, (773)275-6800, on March 20, 9pm-3am. Sold out. 8pm. (2008-03-18)

Hungry Like the Wolf
These days it seems there’s no shortage of bands from Montreal, bands with the word "Wolf" in their name and bands pounding out the sounds being labeled dance-punk. We Are Wolves certainly qualifies for all of the above, but the bilingual trio of Quebecois deliver their serrated keyboard rock with an intensity that separates them from their various ilk

Tip of the Week
Dubstep’s floating breakbeats and torrential basslines form some of the most exciting sounds happening now. In Chicago the monthly Bass Goes Boom parties are the place to hear the best of these beats from dubstep’s international heavyweights as well as the deep pool of homegrown talent powering this emergent scene

Tip of the Week
It can be argued that DJ collective The Rub don’t so much take their name from the legendary Brooklyn monthly they created, as they just transplant the whole damned party to wherever it is they happen to be supplying the beats at the moment
