Tip of the Week
River North Dance Chicago

William Scott

River North Dance Chicago is for lovers. Well, they are this weekend. Its annual Chicago engagement is back at the Harris Theater and just in time for Valentine's Day. The program is to include two world premieres; "Train" by Robert Battle, artistic director of New York's Battleworks Dance Company, is an eclectic, non-stop piece infusing modern, funk and African styles, and "Between Three" by Julia Rhoads, choreographer of RNCDC favorite "In the Oasis," will highlight the grace of the RNCDC's women through a soft and pastoral trio. Also scheduled is the return of Lauri Stallings' "ahimsa," Artistic Director Frank Chaves' "Take a Seat" and "Habaneras, the Music of Cuba" and Harrison McEldowney's "The Box," among others. And Valentine's would not be complete without the classic River North romantic duet, "At Last," a playful piece about a couple's first meeting set to the classic by Etta James. If you have a partner who likes dance, I would imagine tickets to this show will score.

River North Dance Chicago performs February 15-16 at Harris Theater, 205 East Randolph, (312)334-7777, at 8pm.

Playing Around
"It feels pretty lucky to have friendships with people you are star-struck by," says Links Hall artistic associate Kate Sheehy. Throughout the month of January she is ready to celebrate those creative minds by curating a loony little festival aptly titled "Method to Madness."
