Tip of the Week
Hannibal Burress

Mike Schramm

Hannibal Burress hails from New York these days, hanging out with the likes of Aziz Ansari and the Upright Citizens Brigade. But he's still homegrown Chicago—before he went off to New York, he was a familiar face at Chicago Underground Comedy and other local scenes. In his two-night stand at the Chicago Center for Performing Arts' Edge Comedy Club (hosted by Dave Odd with Matt Stanton), Hannibal's set to show off the same nerdy/cool vibe that made him a finalist on Comedy Central's One Mic Fight competition. Whether he's poking fun at jocks or joking about beating little kids at video games, here's your chance to see his New York talent brought back home.

Hannibal Burress performs September 14-15 at the Chicago Center for the Performing Arts, 777 North Green, (312)327-2040, at 8:15pm & 10:30pm both nights. $12-$15.

Souvenir Cheer
At forty-five minutes until game time, crowds pack the sidewalks in front of the souvenir stands on the four corners outside Wrigley Field and people are spending money—on peanuts, on hats, on shirts, on programs, on pistachios, on ponchos. The ponchos, two for $10, are especially big sellers, considering that the rain is picking up, but one Cardinals fan isn't interested

The Depths of Humor
Tony Sam is a stand-up comedian. He loves performing, and it shows. But he's from Chicago. And Chicago, as Sam will tell you, is not a stand-up town

Father Bono
At a Lutheran church in the suburbs, the pastor stands before the congregation and leads them in prayer. He reads the words of confession, then asks the group to rise for a song. Suddenly, Bono, wearing his trademark sunglasses and cowboy hat, steps on the altar from stage left and breaks into "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For."

Politcally Direct
"When things are so bad, and the consequences of having these people in office are so severe, you don't really have the choice of not being involved," says native Chicagoan Stephen Elliott, author of "Happy Baby." "That's our government, and we're responsible for it. You have to be like, 'Can I live with that? Or is it incumbent upon me to do something about it?'"
