Tip of the Week
Fluokids

Steve Mizek

In the era of the blogger-turned-celebrity, it was only a matter of time before mp3 bloggers would join musicians on the road as live acts themselves. The Fluokids, a collective of seven French taste-makers and promoters, have already made it to the top of the music blog pile with their neon-hued site that launched in 2005. Though its contributors push music ranging from Bone Thugs-n-Harmony to Armand Van Helden and a host of local acts, the Fluokids' legacy is intertwined with the rise of what's now known as blog-house. Their posts spotlighted acts like Justice, Kissy Sell Out, Sinden and Chicago/L.A. duo Guns N' Bombs and helped turn the fledgling genre into a trend that's still growing worldwide and is equally revered and reviled among the bloggerati. Now lead 'kid, Pharrell, is touring North America as a DJ alongside pals Yuksek and Brodinski, including a stop at Chicago's legendary Berlin. Bloggers dreaming of living large like Pharrell should pay their dues... and then blog about it.

Fluokids perform with Heather Doble and Zebo at Berlin, 954 West Belmont, September 6 from 9pm-2am. (2007-09-04)
