The Decemberists with the Grant Park Orchestra

Dennis Polkow

Metro, which began life as Cabaret Metro when it opened in 1982 before later shortening its name, is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary with this special free collaboration concert between Portland-based The Decemberists, whose latest album "The Crane Wife" (Capital) is topping college music charts with its blend of progressive rock, klezmer, Irish jigs and sea chanteys, and the Grant Park Orchestra, conducted by Sean O’Loughlin, which will provide orchestral accompaniment to the band. The evening is set to include performances of the Meloy-penned "The Crane Wife 1 & 2," "The Infanta," "We Both Go Down Together," "The Bagman's Gambit," "Odalisque," "The Perfect Crime No. 2," "Los Angeles, I'm Yours," "The Tain," "O Valencia!" "I Was Meant for the Stage," "16 Military Wives" and "The Mariner's Revenge Song." Do yourself a favor and get there early.

The Decemberists play with the Grant Park Orchestra July 18 at the Pritzker Pavilion, Millennium Park, Randolph and Michigan, (312)742-1938, at 6:30pm. Free.
