Tip of the Week
Suffrajett

Tom Lynch

Now that the New York-born band has effectively lodged itself into Chicago hearts and minds since it moved here, the music all comes together on "Black Glitter" (Cobra Music), a mash of thunderous rock `n' roll, riff heavy with lead singer Simi's soulful, meaty, sexual and overwhelming vocals. She'll stop you in your tracks. With bits of garage, art punk and grunge, Suffrajett busts your bones with visceral and forceful rock, building on its triumphant 2003 self-titled debut with confidence and maturity and enough swagger to suffocate a bunny rabbit. It's clear that this band is here to stay goddammit, and "Black Glitter," smart and sharp, should help place Simi as one of the top rock-band frontwomen out there. This band doesn't let up.

Suffrajett plays April 27 at Double Door, 1572 North Milwaukee, (773)489-3160, at 9pm. $7. (2007-04-24)

Chicago's sex-rock pranksters are at it again with "The Dirt That Makes You Drown" (Morphius), their second full-length (after the incendiary 2006 record "Decked Out") and most widespread rock album catalogued so far

The Story of a Band
"All That to the Wall" is the band's new record, a smart, infectious dueling match between the band's original sound and a newfound take on classic indie rock--the songs a bit shorter and tighter than on the previous full-length, each of the album's songs swirl around your head, jabbing at your brain, until, unexpectedly, one by one, they're gone, and you're off to the next
