Even the casual dance music observer's likely familiar with the career
of Chicago's Felix Stallings, Jr. After a decade as one of the leading
forces in Chicago house's second wave, his "Kittenz and Thee Glitz,"
one of the seminal dance music records of the decade, not only shot his
star into mainstream orbit, but made Miss Kitten and Tommie Sunshine
household names as well. (At least in the cool households.) Since then,
his globetrotting DJ gigs and extensive time in the studio working on
his original material as well as his sought-after remixes have left him
little time for appearances here in his hometown. Fortunately, his
friendship with Claudia Gassel, who booked him into a periodic residency
at Crobar, where she's had a long run as marketing director, turns her
birthday party into quite the special present for Chicago: a gig at the
relatively intimate new space where she's also a partner, the Debonair
Social Club. Expect electro-rock-house mayhem from the mad mind of
Felix, but most of all, expect a party. And a line, so get there
early. Felix Da Housecat spins at Debonair Social Club, 1575 North
Milwaukee, (773)227-7990, on January 11. No cover.
