Chicago's next South Side entry into the world's hip-hop arena, Psalm One has already gotten a serious amount of attention, including making URB Magazine's Next 100 list. Her debut on Rhymesayers, "The Death of Frequent Flyer," demands attention from the start with four dead-on tracks, a Psalm One introduction to the world, concluding with her vicious attack on "Rapper Girls"--"why don't you go home and practice your spread eagle," she suggests in one verse. It's a smooth record throughout--nothing ever brings the flow to a halt--which inevitably makes the album pass by rather quickly, with ease. With help from Thaione Davis, DJ DQ, Ang 13, KaDi and Brother Ali (on "Standby," one of the record's best tracks--"honey-roasted-peanut-eatin' fetus" is certainly an interesting insult), "The Death of Frequent Flyer" is an endlessly convincing record. And for those of us who never gave up Mac `n' Cheese, you gotta hear her "Macaroni and Cheese" chorus.
