Dress Code: Multi-Culti
Style

Jennifer Berg

With a celebrity-studded guest list, jaw-dropping fashions and a live soundtrack provided by Beyonce, the Chicago Theater becomes a "glamosphere" just in time to host Glamorama's deliriously decadent fashion show this Friday. The inhabitants of this vibrantly chic sphere will be dressed to reflect a "multi-culti global fusion of fashion." Since we're not quite sure what that looks like--but it sure does sound chic--we checked in with Melissa Ryan, Macy's Trend Correspondent and Glamorama stylist.

Tell us what "multi-culti global fusion fashion" looks like.

It's all about cultures blending and the global nature of not only fashion but the world today. [It's about] the mixing of colors and textures and the juxtaposition of silhouettes and shapes in unexpected ways. It's an exciting "there are no rules, only inspiration" approach to fashion.

How will the models' makeup play into this multi-culti vibe?

The look for the models is an amped-up take on global beauty. Each girl will be made to look her individual best: hair will highlight each model's assets and attitude; makeup will be soft and sexy with an overall golden glow.

What fall trends should we look for on the runway?

Black is back in a big way. Look for more sober, yet mysterious colors like silvers and gradations of grey. It's all about volume and proportion. Balloon hems and bubble skirts, the layering of different lengths and textures in unexpected ways. And don't forget the skinny pant! Layered under tunics or dresses, or paired with feminine blouses with wide belts accentuating the waist, the skinny pant is a must-have for fall. Evening is especially glamorous in rich jewel tones, while white and soft metallics add a modern, sophisticated twist. Lastly, we can't forget classic fall luxury including cashmere, suede, menswear patterns (plaid) all in a wonderful autumnal palette.

Do you have any fashion tips for folks who still have no idea what to wear to the event?

Glamorama is the event of the season to step outside of the box. Ditch your standard black-tie staple and try something a little more on the wild side! At Glamorama, you'll see everything from ball gowns to hot pants and everything in between.
