Make no mistake--this is a night of literary despair. Alternatively
titled "Ready, Set, Relapse," this night of readings doesn't exactly
look on the bright side. Local poet Marc Arcuri--who doubles as a
musician (Safety Pin, ex-English Softhearts) and had a brief stint as
fashion editor of Lumpen--offers his instinctive, depressive and
self-deprecating prose as the night's headliner, which also features
writer Dan Tortuga, zinester ("Burn Collector") and musician
(Challenger) Al Burian, poet Dan Gleason and Meg McCarville. In
melancholy you often find humor, which should be ever-present tonight,
so expect a good chuckle at the expense of someone else's misery. If
there's anyone in this city who needs to publish a book of poetry and
hasn't already, it's Marc Arcuri.
The Orphan Schlitz reading series happens August 25 at Quimby's, 1454
West North, (773)342-0910, at 8pm. Free.
