Quimby's and The Machine Media present an evening of music-inspired lit
from a slew of Chicago authors and journalists. Brian Costello, host of
"The Brian Costello Show," a live talk show that regularly hits the
Empty Bottle stage, and drummer of The Functional Blackouts, reads from
his debut novel, "The Enchanters vs. Sprawlburg Springs," which was
released last year. Jim DeRogatis, pop-music critic at the Sun-Times and
author of several rock `n' roll books, recently released "Staring at
Sound: The True Story of Oklahoma's Fabulous Flaming Lips" and reads
from his work. Also reading: Jessica Hopper, a columnist for Punk
Planet, whose essay "Emo: Where the Girls Aren't" has nearly reached
legendary status, J.R. Nelson, who heads the blog "Ozzie Guillen for
President" and Amy Phillips, news editor at Pitchfork Media, who writes
for The Village Voice, as well as Blender. All together, an eclectic
blend of writers who find melody in words. Music with Meaning #7 takes place June 19 at Quimby's, 1854 West
North, (773)342-0910, at 7pm. Free.
