Holy Fuck

Tom Lynch

Holy fuckin' shit! Holy fuckin' Fuck plays Empty Bottle! Hoo-fuckin'-ray! The world's best improvised dance music should fill this room to the brim. Stylized future-jazz, pulsing bass and drum rhythms and synths from the best of the 1980's thrillers, Holy Fuck's self-titled record is truly something special, ingenious in its execution, fairly harmful in its power and deliriously fun in its spirit. Live, though I've never seen it, it's supposed to be one hell of a performance, improvised or not, I'm inclined to believe it would make you want to bust your bones dancing no matter what noises come from the speakers. Instrumental music that is anything but for the background, Holy Fuck is a band we need to hear more from as often as possible. This band deserves its name.

Holy Fuck plays January 19 at the Empty Bottle, 1035 North Western, (773)276-3600. (2006-01-17)

Another artist to fall under the "you know, that band that sings that song on `The O.C.'" moniker, this Londoner's "Speak for Yourself" is much more deserving of honest praise

Good Rep
After Elizabeth Elmore's first crack at penetrating the walls of the Midwest indie-punk scene, Sarge, turned in its colors in 1999, the singer and songwriter played several shows solo. But, as it turned out, she "wasn't very good at it."
