Tip of the Week
Chicago Book Festival

Tom Lynch

The Chicago Book Festival is in full force this week, featuring a massive number of readings at a variety of Chicago locations, including theaters, libraries and schools. Gregory Maguire reads at Barbara's Bookstore at UIC on October 10 in support of "Son of a Witch," his sequel to "Wicked," the book that spawned the musical hit now in an open run here in the city. Perhaps one of the festival's biggest highlights, Aleksandar Hemon, Chicago author of the unflinching "The Story of Bruno" and the equally enticing "Nowhere Man," reads from his work on October 11 in the School of the Art Institute Ballroom. In the future, Joe Meno and Kevin Guilfoile, authors of "Hairstyles of the Damned" and "Cast of Shadows" respectively, read at Webster Place's Barnes & Noble on October 15; Rosellen Brown discusses her work at the Harold Washington Library Center on October 20; Rick Moody does "The Diviners" at the State Street Borders on October 21 and filmmaker Spike Lee discusses his "That's the Story and I'm Sticking To It" at the Harold Washington Cultural Arts Center on October 23. A strong lineup all around, for sure.

The 2005 Chicago Book Festival runs through the end of October at multiple Chicago venues. For more information visit www.chicagopubliclibrary.org.
