![]() Tip of the Week Listening Event: Sigur Ros
Wednesday of next week, the Museum of Contemporary Photography goes rock
'n' roll. That is, as rock 'n' roll as a museum spinning records by
Icelandic supergroup Sigur Ros can get. Co-sponsored by New York's
Filter magazine, the band's new album "Takk..." gets released on
Geffen five days later. Tracks from the album will be broadcast
throughout the museum while patrons browse current exhibitions. So,
exactly what is the attraction of subjecting oneself to the croonings of
lead vocalist Jon Thor Birgisson in a museum setting? At the very least,
it's an excellent opportunity to experience a live blend of visual and
aural medias. Reason enough to go in and of itself. But in an ideal
situation, the vectors of these two disciplines may converge in a way
that casts both in the light of an expansive, previously unrealized
dimension.
"Takk..." plays at the Museum of Contemporary Photography, 600
South Michigan, (312)663-5554, on September 7, from 7-9pm.
