![]() Tip of the Week Bilingual
Through an initiative called the Young Friends committee, a new art-film
screening premieres, curated by Tracy M. Taylor and showing for one
night only. The premise of the screening is to investigate film that
exists "within the framework of painting and drawing." Among those on
the bill are fledgling luminaries such as Jeremy Blake, Jay Heikes,
Fraser Taylor and a list of long-burning stars including recent MCA
12x12 exhibitor and former Suitable Gallery Director Scott Wolniak and
Whitney Biennial winner Jim Trainor. Trainor's work almost exclusively
centers on turning his copious drawings into animated shorts and
features, often as a thought experiment into the evolutionary effects of
genetics on imagined animal species. His animations are at once
heartfelt and cruelly bathetic in how their elevated, often
spiritualized narratives drown out the futility of his characters'
onscreen struggle to survive their often deadly encounters with life.
"Bilingual" shows at The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, 2320
West Chicago, (773)227-5522 on August 18 at 7pm.
