Nothing goes better with a manicure than a martini. And now you can have
both.
Bars throughout Chicago are jumping on the spa-party bandwagon
courtesy of the Martini and Manicure (M&M) evening. For about $15 you
and your friends can get pampered while enjoying fabulous libations at
neighborhood bars.
A good advertising opportunity for spas and bars alike, M&M nights
benefit spas by getting their name out into the community. "It's about
building a brand, about showing people what a spa service can be," says
Chicago Beauty founder--and spa-party goddess--Carolyn Brundage.
From the consumer angle, the key to getting the most out of an M&M
night is simple: invite many friends. But before you and your crew head
out the door, keep a few tips in mind:
M&M nights are usually first-come first-serve, so make sure to locate
the person in charge upon arrival and sign up. Cost is minimal and
tipping is completely at your discretion. The techs are traditionally
compensated by the spa including tip. "I take care of everybody
there," says Brundage of the parties she arranges. Still, she adds,
"you do reward great service."
M&M nights are a good way to test out new nail salons without the
commitment, but don't expect full-on paraffin treatment--there's only so
much a bar table can allow for.
Also, because of the number of people waiting for services, French
manicures are a no-no. Most importantly, don't forget to make the most
of the situation and get dressed up, Brundage says. "That's part of the
fun of it." Hydrate, 3458 North Halsted, (773)975-9244, Tuesdays 9pm-midnight
