![]() Tip of the Week Spectacle: Gameboy Edition
A noble experiment in the attempt to fuse electronic music with visual
art produced by the appropriately named Margaret Noble, the monthly
showcase "Spectacle" this week offers one last hurrah before going on
hiatus. Since Noble's a DJ by profession, Spectacle has often hedged
the
visual in favor of the aural. Not that it ultimately harmed either: some
of Chicago's finest from both disciplines have mingled here into the
wee
hours, including art critics from a certain alternative weekly. It's a
fitting finale: this last installment of the long-running show will
combine photography by Bud Melvin and video projections by Brandon Ross
with music derived entirely from a Gameboy. Mixing the noise are DJs
Buttermaker and Mark Denardo--Melvin will also cross over for the
evening from photography to turntables. Noble will fill in between sets
to send the showcase off with flair. Spectacle: Gameboy Edition shows at Sonotheque, 1444 West
Chicago (312)226-7600. May 26, 9pm. $4 cover.
