Tip of the Week
Aline Kolinsky-Crumb and Peter Poplaski

Michael Workman

A few years back, the R. Crumb section opened on an upper floor of Musée de l'Érotisme in the Montmartre section of Paris, capital city of a country the artist had recently immigrated to in protest of what he saw as a hopelessly corrupt American way of life. Touring his collection of drawings at the museum, or reading his numerous titles on most any bookstore shelf, elicits the brutal love of an artistic vision often irreconcilable with its artist's own human nature. R. Crumb is now releasing a new 400-page collection of comix, including 300 sketchbook illustrations, "80 personal photos, interviews, and a special CD of 20 songs of R. Crumb's original music" over tea this weekend at the Rhona Hoffman Gallery. Crumb-chasers should note that the man himself won't be in attendance, though his own outspoken and wildly articulate "devil girl" Aline Kolinsky-Crumb will be, along with co-author and fellow cartoonist Peter Poplaski. Aline Kolinsky-Crumb & Peter Poplaski appear at Rhona Hoffman Gallery, 118 North Peoria, (312)455-1900. April 16, 1-3pm. (2005-04-12)
