Tip of the Week
Mamby

Brian Hieggelke

If you love house music but work 9-to-5, your live-listening options are usually limited to the weekends, if at all. Which is why we fell so hard last year for this biweekly that's been on winter hiatus, for it's a night in which local promoters bring out some of Chicago's finest turntable talent for sessions that start at the after-work-friendly time of 5pm. (Although, in true club fashion, it really gets kicking a few hours later.) Last year saw the likes of Derrick Carter and Heather electrify the inviting open-air confines of Moonshine. This week Mamby returns, a sure sign of springtime, kicking it all off with Mazi, Diz, and Hiroki.

Mamby takes place April 20, and every other Wednesday thereafter, at Moonshine, 1824 West Division, (773)862-8686, from 5pm-2am.

For the rest of the world, the story of Chicago house music is the story of the foundation of dance music, a seminal sound developed in a specific place and time, not unlike Mississippi Delta blues to its genre
