The Good Jean Pool
An opinionated overview of designer denim in the $150-$300 and up range

Joanna Topor

True Religion: These hipster's jeans sport all sorts of rips and holes. Ideal for those who need to be on the cutting edge of denim fashion. Available at Untitled.

7 For All Mankind: Supposedly women swear by their 7s, which are all about making your butt look good. Available at Apartment No. 9, Krista K and Bloomindales.

Juicy Couture: Surprisingly affordable for something with "couture" in the name, but they tend to be on the super-low side so watch out. Available at Sugar Magnolia, Saks Fifth Ave., Neiman Marcus, Marshall Fields, Bloomingdales, Barney's New York and Active Endeavors.

Citizens of Humanity: Available in an array of styles and colors, these are the ultimate introduction to designer denim. Available at Etra and Krista K.

Diesel: Tempting styles that can make you forget about your new year's resolution to start a savings account. Available at Diesel Store and Untitled.

Paper Denim & Cloth: The material is soft and inviting, however I was warned that they don't really vary from style to style and maybe that's why I had trouble finding some that looked good. Available at Apartment No. 9 and Etre.

Chip & Pepper: Next on my list of "must-have" jeans--definitely the best pair of dark-wash jeans I found. Available at Jake, Jolie Joli, Etre, Krista K and p.45.

Antik Denims: These really grew on me. Think punk cowboy. These jeans are all about the details, including whip-stitch cuffs, so they're not for hemming. Available at Jake, Tangerine and NYLA.

James Jeans: The perfect jeans for those of us who are a bit self-conscious about our bottoms. Darts on back pocket accentuate the middle of the rear making bums appear smaller and cuter. Available at Jolie Joli, Untitled and Krista K.

Joe's Jeans: These come with really cute names--The Lover, The Rocker, The Honey. Ideal for anyone who wants to label themselves. Available at Etre, Red Head Boutique, Tangerine, Samantha and Untitled.

Salt Jeans: At $140, these were under my price limit, but I couldn't help myself. The cute slanted rear pockets worked well for slimming down rear ends. You can find them at Public i. Available at Tangerine.
