Nothing exemplifies the global influence of Chicago house more than
Hernan Cattaneo, arguably South America's biggest DJ. He started
spinning in Buenos Aires after his friend returned from New York in 1987
with a bag of vinyl from pioneering Chicago record labels Trax and DJ
International, which featured Frankie Knuckles, among others. From
there, Cattaneo quickly joined the DJ elite in the nineties, touring
with Paul Oakenfold and playing at the major European dance-music
festivals and Ibiza. His rise to the top recently culminated with a no.
6 ranking in DJ magazine's Top 100 DJs 2004 list. Given how Chicago was
a major inspiration for Catteneo's career, his upcoming set at Vision is
something of a return to his roots, and he'll be celebrating the release
of his latest mix compilation on Renaissance. Get there early--Cattaneo
often takes club goers on a journey through deep progressive house that
incorporates tribal, tech, and breaks, and it all starts with the first
track. Hernan Cattaneo plays Godskitchen at Vision, 640 North Dearborn, on
March 12.
