Tip of the Week
Guitar Wolf, Tyrades, Camaro Rouge

Dave Chamberlain

A Guitar Wolf show is like a blue-chip stock: you know exactly what you're getting and it's still good. This quartet of Japanese rockers hasn't lost a bit of spasmodic, high-octane gasoline if 2004 was any indication. With three records released in a span of twelve months, including the fireball that is "Rock `n' Roll Etiquette," the Wolf keeps its fangs embedded in the skin of punk-angled rockabilly, screaming volume and barked vocals. Guitar Wolf represents, in every way, the best of the worst. The openers are no slouches either. The Tyrades are poised to release their second record, and none too soon. The band's first (self-titled) record from 2003 never stopped sounding good, with a jerking, snapping push-pull of angled guitars implanted with bratty, angry female vocals--and as good as the record is, the band owns the stage with a furious delivery that's short, fast and cutting. Show opener Camaro Rouge also play the loud rock `n' roll, and features refugees from two other lauded bands from the past, The Drapes and The Dishes.

Guitar Wolf and Co. play March 6 at the Abbey Pub, 3420 West Grace, (773)539-6116.

Tip of the Week
The idea behind Kasabian was inevitable: youths come hurtling out of the UK Midlands' house, hip-hop and hardcore scene, discover the addictive bounty of the rock `n' roll jangle, then proceed to combine their youthful endeavors with the latter
