Tip of the Week
In Your System!

Mary Susan Littlepage

Birmingham, UK DJ Surgeon and New York City DJ/producer Dietrich Schoenemann will take over the Logan Square Auditorium for In Your System!, a humongous, two-room techno party not to be missed this Saturday. Tony Child, aka Surgeon, who has been a resident DJ at the House of God club in Birmingham since the early nineties and has held a residency at the Tresor club in Berlin, spins moody, aggressive, bold, harsh, dark, and simultaneously brutal and beautiful techno. You might hear haunting, tripped-out sounds layered with hypnotic, thundering beats surrounded by eerily uplifting grooves and a mysterious, intense, dirtylicious energy. Part of the charmingly dark vibe that's in a lot of Surgeon's music results from his having lived on the edge of a red-light district. Surgeon also likes to blend elements of a DJ set with elements of a live performance. A slew of local DJs, promoters and other techno enthusiasts are teaming together to bring Surgeon and Schoenemann to the auditorium, which has new walls of JBL speakers pumping 20,000+ watts of sound. Also rocking the decks are DJs Frankie Vega, Gabriel Palomo, Steve Christian, V!JAY, Jesse Martinez, Avex Axiom, Mindbender, Mike Brankis, Tlax vs. Lennox, and Drift vs. Eric "I" Cue. Whether you're hyped to go to In Your System! or are just curious about Surgeon's sound, check out DJ Dave Siska this Friday night on 89.3 FM/wnur.org. Siska, WNUR DJ for life, will be spreading the love when he spins an all-Surgeon set.

In Your System! takes on the Logan Square Auditorium, 2539 North Kedzie, (773)252-6179, on February 19. (2005-02-15)
