Tip of the Week
Tony Fitzpatrick

Tom Lynch

Chicago's resident badass artist and writer Tony Fitzpatrick visits Quimby's this week to present his newest creation, "The Wonder: Portraits of a Remembered City Volume 1," a new collection of collages and an ode to the city he loves. Fitzpatrick is Algren Chicago--open heart but clenched fist--and "The Wonder," as gorgeous as it is, punches hard as well. He tells his own story, combined with tales of the city itself, using drawing, text and outside images like baseball-game tickets and matchbooks to create a visceral fantasy, an exploration through a city like no other, through eyes like no other. Fitzpatrick, who has his work in the Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others, has created a book that could equally dominate a coffee table or the counter of a Chicago tavern. Or maybe just another museum.

Tony Fitzpatrick discusses "The Wonder: Tales of a Remembered City Volume 1" on January 14 at Quimby's, 1854 West North, (773)342-0910, at 7pm. Free.
