2005 has got to be a better year, right? And what better way to start on
a properly optimistic note than to spend the first night of the year
losing yourself in the unstoppably upbeat sounds of Dutch trance king
Ferry Corsten. Corsten just moved up a notch in the definitive DJ
magazine poll to #5 in the world, just below fellow trance royalty
Tiesto, Paul van Dyk and Armin van Buuren. (Sasha represents the only
progressive-house DJ in the top five.) It was a big year for Corsten,
who released his first artist album, "Right of Way," early in the
year. The record flexed his production skills, and showed an affinity
for electro, especially in the singles, "Punk" and "Rock Your Body,
Rock." With this night, Spundae sheds its moniker and becomes
Godskitchen, taking on the name of its UK parent. It's particularly
fitting then that Godskitchen resident John O'Bir leads off the night.
Ferry Corsten spins the Day One party at Vision, 640 North Dearborn,
on January 1.
