Those looking to pass on a little bit of Chicago this Christmas could do worse than a stop at River North's Schneider Gallery for work by George Ciardi, Doug McGoldrick and Cassio Vasconcellos. These latter two have documented Chicago views from around the city and colors abound: pictured from the tip of the Odyssey II, Vasconcellos, for instance, gives us a Navy Pier challenged by the oversized and intensely white prow of the ship facing in like a shark's snout toward a blue-lit skyline defined with black towers peppered with white lights. Ropes running off the boat into the perspectival distance seem to stretch to the shore itself, while ropes in the foreground of the frame connect the city with the lake and the viewer. Similarly, his "Canal Street #3" gives a garishly red view of an El track's understrutting, the Sears tower and a few shorter buildings framed between the girders against distant and jealous green nighttime sky.
