Tip of the Week
Miguel Migs and Lisa Shaw

Al de Leon

Miguel Migs stands at the forefront of deep house, pumping out up-tempo music that's as easy to listen to in a lounge as it is to dance to in a club. Take a spin through his recordings (his releases on seminal West Coast label Naked Music are among his best) and it's apparent why Migs has built a loyal following across the globe. His influences go beyond the traditional electronic-music genres, delving into reggae, soul and R&B. Migs favors a more organic approach with lots of instrumentation, from synths to saxes, and thick, dubby bass lines, all layered underneath lush vocals. Lisa Shaw, one of Migs' frequent vocal collaborators and his label-mate on Naked, will join him at Smart Bar to lend her smooth, sultry voice to a live PA. Shaw's soulful style and exceptional songwriting over the past ten years has even the mainstream taking notice--Madonna gave props to Shaw's 2000 release "Always" in a Rolling Stone interview. With Migs on the decks, and Shaw freestyling over his set and performing her own material, get ready for a double dose of the finest in deep house.

Miguel Migs and Lisa Shaw perform at Smart Bar, 3730 North Clark, (773)549-0203, on October 22.
