Tip of the Week
Dave Eggers

Tom Lynch

This Friday, McSweeney's man Dave Eggers, along with little brother Toph, introduce new "authors" Dr. and Mr. Haggis-On-Whey, two galaxy adventurers who have traveled light years to bring together the cold, hard facts of human, and animal, existence. The pair's two books, "Your Disgusting Head" and "Giraffes? Giraffes!" mark a first in lit history--full encyclopedias of completely erroneous, though terribly amusing, information. For example, did you know that giraffes control roughly ninety percent of what Americans and Canadians see in mirrors? The other ten percent, apparently, is still controlled by the Irish. The illustrated giraffe book, complete with trading cards, also explains how the creature first arrived on Earth, straight from Neptune, by cosmic elevator. The event was shifted at the last minute from the Chicago Cultural Center across the street to the Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park to accommodate the possible riot, so expect a crowd.

Dave and Toph Eggers introduce Dr. and Mr. Haggis-On-Whey on October 15 at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, 100 North Michigan, (312)742-1168, at 7pm. Free.
