Chicago--yes, Chicago--Fashion Week
Style

Michael Workman

Do you have a taste for designers skirts? A shoe obsession? If so, then hold onto your hat--or pick out a new one--because next week, the whole city goes pret-a-porter. A hallmark of European fashion capitals, and notably New York, fall fashion season is traditionally kicked off with extensive "fashion weeks." And now Chicago gets its shot. The whole event's organized by Krystal Callendar--could an event organizer have a more appropriate name?--but at press time, the organizers were still short on details. Several calls went unreturned as to location of events on specific days and Callendar was unable to answer questions due to her limited grasp of English.

Still, it's the fashion that counts. And there's plenty of it. Chicago Fashion week takes place this year September 15-25, with a massive 215 events taking place all around the city, including runway shows and showcases at the Museum of Science and Industry and local bars and clubs such as Crobar, Sound-Bar and Y. Local designers Fokus and James De Colon will be among those showcased as up-and-comers, alongside clothes by more established designers such as Armani, Ann Taylor and Custo Barcelona. And, of course--would a fashion week be complete without them?--Mary Kate and Ashley. Did you even know the Olsen twins had their own fashion line? They do now.

Chicago Fashion week's focus on new and unknown designers follows a trend in worldwide fashion showcases but public-relations director Peter Black hopes this will help set Chicago Fashion week apart from other fall showcases. Chicago Fashion Week takes place September 15-25. View the full schedule of events online at thechicagofashionweek.com
