![]() Sexy city Chicago singled out for recent Forbes survey
A sparse crop of platonic pairs becomes instantly aroused when they hear
talk of dating and the single life in the backroom of Parrots, one of
Lincoln Park's neighborhood joints.
"You have to be your own version of your celebrity. Everyone's out
cruising for booty. You have to get dressed up, go to a club or bar. I
can't go out looking like this and expect to get hit on," says
twentysomething Kurt Bauer, the edge of a tie-dyed tee showing under his
over-shirt.
Well, according to Forbes.com's recent annual survey of "America's
Best Cities For Singles," it shouldn't be so tough shacking up in
Chicago-the city ranked eleventh, with Austin on top. And if that
doesn't make you feel bad enough about not having found your better
half in a relatively easy, so to speak, city, this should: Chicago's
ranked in the top two spots according to Forbes.com reader polls in the
past three years.
Why the discrepancy between the survey and what the readers have to
say? Survey author David Dukcevich's Inbox fills with 100 percent
positive feedback on Chicago, and scores high on nightlife and culture.
"The fact is that Chicago is one cool, fun city, a single sort of
island in a vast sea of boredom." But, as a big city, the cost of
living and job growth isn't great. It's no Las Vegas.
Back in Parrots, "A lot of people here are looking for love in the
clichéd sense," says granola-guy's female companion. A guy next to her
adds, "It sucks everywhere. Dating."
