The Myopic Poetry Series, held on Sunday nights at Myopic Books on Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park, has consistently offered interesting readings from Chicago poets during its twelve-year existence, though often under the radar. "The nice thing about our series it that it complements the other series," says Chuck Stebleton, who took over the reigns as coordinator in January. "We have a similar aesthetic as the Danny's series and Discreet. It's a nice social place, because students can come. It's not a bar, like Danny's, so it's all ages." This week is local poet John Beer, who also heads The Danny's Reading Series (Beer is also a Newcity contributor). Beer will perform a piece entitled, "Talking About the Talk Poem," a performance/lecture which Stebleton describes as "something we've been talking about for a while, more performance than lecture, but still embodying the spirit of a talk poem."

The Myopic Poetry Series takes place on May 2 at Myopic Books, 1564 North Milwaukee, (773)862-4882, at 7pm.
