I totally have this urge when Shelley Jackson comes into town to ask to
participate in her Skin project, where she's tattooing a story, one
word at a time, on willing bodies across America. However, knowing my
luck, I'll probably then be walking around the rest of my life with a
black "the" in Times New Roman on my ass. The author known for her
hypertext fiction is coming into town for the event being thrown by my
two favorite local literary journals, ACM (Another Chicago Magazine) and
Bridge Magazine (full disclosure: personal friendships abound at both),
when the massive AWP (the Association of Writers and Writing Programs
Conference) descends on the Palmer House downtown. ACM and Bridge will
host a free reading at 4:30pm at the Bridge HQ in the West Loop, writers
including Robert Dana, Amina Cain and Antonia Logue. Later on Jessa
Crispin, aka Bookslut, the tart-tongued web blogger, will MC readings by
Ms. Jackson, and others including Nin Andrews, Aldo Alvarez, Rachel
Tucker and Joe Wenderoth. DJ Margaret Noble provides sounds for the
after-party. Both events take place at 119 North Peoria, #3D, (312)421-2227. The
first reading takes place at 4:30pm, the second at 8pm, $10 admission
includes two free drink tickets, which are $1 thereafter.
