![]() Tip of the Week Fleur Gallery
Though the adjective "colorful" isn't always used as a compliment, the
title of this show at the Pilsen neighborhood's Fleur Gallery is meant
in only the most positive light. Co-directors Ali Walsh and Christy
MacLear have decided to funnel all proceeds from art sales at this show
to the restoration of Chicago's now-shuttered Three Arts Club, of which
MacLear serves as board president. In theory however, while this show's
more a philanthropic gesture than serious attempt at funding the Arts
Club's makeover, plenty here will entertain. And Fleur's artists seem
happy to oblige: a rock promoter, ceramicist, UIC student and an artist
whose work has drawn coverage in Reader's Digest have been tapped to
show. The last of these, Brooklyn artist Denise Regan, exhibits
"Harpist Red," an oil on canvas that depicts a pair of women center
stage in a great hall, one plucking the strings of a harp while the
other saws a violin. In the foreground, a silhouetted figure plunges the
keys of a piano. "Living a Colorful Life" shows at Fleur Gallery, 1833 South
Halsted, (312)421-8929, through March 27.
