![]() Tip of the Week Nathaniel Rackowe
Those planning to visit London artist Nathaniel Rackowe's installation
at the Garden Fresh space should bring their dancing shoes. Rackowe's
work examines the boundary of physical space, and this current piece
forces the audience to as well. In the main room, a steel-framed,
semi-transparent panel of corrugated siding on a rod attached to the
ceiling takes up most of the room. As it turns, patrons are forced out
of the way. A video projection in the upper right-hand corner of the
room shows a grainy black-and-white view from a camera previously
attached to the top of the panel, though patrons may mistakenly think it
a live feed. In the next room, a metal cube lowers and raises vertically
on a wire also mounted to the ceiling. A bright white light explodes
from a slat in the cube like a copy machine or an elevator passing
behind closed doors. Both works combine to hint at the possibility of an
unseen but intrusive beyond. Nathaniel Rackowe shows at Garden Fresh, 3039 North Lincoln,
(773)837-9809, through March 13.
