Founder and editor Todd Dills promises that Monday's event at The
Hideout celebrating installment #12 of the literary broadside will be a
"mad li'l variety show, I think." Kicking off the night will be a
reading of the "Strom Thurmond Itinerary in Hell--For Now and all
Eternity," a Dante-like dispatch from the deceased senator. Local
literati on hand to read their prose include Elizabeth Crane of the
collection "When the Messenger is Hot," Brian Costello, host of the
"Brian Costello Show with Brian Costello," Susannah Felts, Jeb
Gleason-Allured, Eric Graf and Dills himself. The literary part of the
event will end with what Dills describes as a "collaborative itinerary
in the style of William Gaddis' 'J.R.' from Eric Graf and myself,
with readers showing up within" and then folk duo Cantina performs. The2ndHand celebrates its release of #12 on September 22 at the
Hideout, 1354 West Wabansia, at 7:30pm.
