Porn Star Ball

Brian Hieggelke

Donald Glaude just plain blasts out relentless energy on his recent "Mixed Live" recording, and that alone is reason enough to head over to Spundae Saturday night. The Tacoma, Washington-based DJ is renowned for his live sets, for his careful study of the crowd, which inevitably finds itself in a state of frenzy before the night ends. But this night also marks the launch of an ambitious new touring club night, one that brings the hedonistic character of clubbing even more front and center than usual. The Porn Star Ball matches up top U.S. DJs (Glaude and Christopher Lawrence in rotation) with the Vivid Girls, who are, ahem, celebrities in their own right. The organizers are promoting a "come-as-your-favorite-porn-star" competition, with Vivid Girls Savanna Samson, Sunrise Adams and Kira Kener tagged as judges, which should mean for even more flesh on and around the dance floor than usual. Think of it as a boudoir photo shoot for 2,000. But remember, they are movie (or at least video) stars, so don't expect to get too up-close-and-personal.

The Porn Star Ball featuring Donald Glaude takes place June 28 at Vision Nightclub, 640 North Dearborn, (312)266-1944.

Sushi joints are so plentiful in this city that they've become a modern-day version of the neighborhood diner: we tend to frequent the one close by as long as it is clean, fresh, friendly and reasonably priced.

It seems inconceivable in Clear Channel's world, but two decades ago, house music was being played on the radio in Chicago and was drawing huge audiences.

Fun house
James Curd is the creative force behind "Greens Keepers Present the Ziggy Franken Radio Show." The debut album from the Greens Keepers, released on Derrick Carter's London-based Classic Music label, makes for one of the most creative, offbeat takes on house music you'll ever hear.
