![]() Tip of the Week Myron Kozman and Allen Porter
The range of disciplined aesthetic effects that can be produced by
cameraless photography are shown exquisitely by Myron Kozman and Allen
Porter, two unjustly neglected experimentalists who worked at the
Institute of Design sixty years ago. By brushing and dripping emulsion
on photographic paper, Kozman created dense and dynamic deep-brown and
white "chemical drawings" that anticipated the bold and teeming images
of abstract-expressionist painting. By laying serpentine constructions
of movie film on photographic paper, Porter created elegant
black-and-white photograms that delight the eye with their airy and
sportive twists and turns. Exploring the gamut of compositional
possibilities within the parameters of his project, Parker moves from
tumbling, intricate circular forms to sharp-edged linear and angular
patterns that radiate vectors of force, always evoking the incredible
brightness of being. Myron Kozman and Allen Porter are showing at Robert Henry Adams Fine
Art, 715 North Franklin, (312)642-8700, through December 21.
