Movieside

Ray Pride

The first anniversary of the ambitious monthly showcase of music, film shorts, and videos takes over the Biograph for the weekend. Saturday's 8pm program includes work by The Brothers Quay, Eric Fensler, Elizabeth Subrin and Le Tigre, Mr. Show, Bryan Boyce, Rusty Nails, and others, with performances by Bobby Conn, Andrew Bird, Cynthia Plaster Caster, the Guapos, and more. Sunday night at 6pm, John Waters appears with a benefit screening of "Polyester" that benefits the Chicago Rape Crisis Hotline and Open Hand Chicago. He's sticking around for the 8pm Movieside, which features work by The Brothers Quay, Guy Maddin, Super Tupelo, Ray Harryhausen, Scott Dikkers, Mark Hejnar, Doug Lussenhopp, Jem Cohen and Fugazi and, among other films, Jim Jarmusch's "Coffee and Cigarettes," with Tom Waits. Besides Waters, other guests include Dr. Killbot, Jugglers against War, Chicago Kings, and Cynthia Plaster Caster.
