Chris and Heather's Country Calendar Show

Tony Barnett

A cavalcade of stars--both living and dead--come together at Fitzgerald's for the unveiling of Heather's Lil' 2003 Country Calendar. Heather is one Heather McAdams, an artist who year-after-year has produced what has become one of Chicago's most sought after pop-culture items, a calendar featuring country music's most beloved classic stars as rendered by Heather's pen and ink. To introduce 2003's month-by-month masterpiece, the cream of the crop from the area's alt-country scene take on the guise of the legends that appear in Ms. McAdams' calendar. For example, Kelly Hogan performs Connie Smith, the Waco Bros. do Lefty Frizzell, Neko Case performs Roger Miller... you get the idea. So, don't go expecting straight-up sets from these musicians for this evening, but do expect to hear great takes on timeless music and have a hoot to boot. Also, take in the 16mm Film Jamboree, featuring clips of the C&W royalty of yesteryear.

Chris and Heather's Country Calendar Show plays December 6 at FitzGerald's, Roosevelt, Berwyn, (708)788-2118.

My first introduction to Richard X. Heyman was the 1991 album, "Hey Man!," on Sire Records. It took me awhile to get past the cover, which features Heyman sitting crossed-legged on the floor, holding a guitar, with a prize mullet. But once I overcame the haircut, I discovered an album packed full of endearing power-pop
