![]() Tip of the Week Merci pour le chocolat
Claude Chabrol at his most elegant and sinister, examining the
perversity of evil in pearlescent Swiss surroundings. Isabelle Huppert
is heir to a Swiss chocolate fortune; she's just married a concert
pianist for the second time (Jacques Dutronc, all hooded blue eyes,
forelock and forlorn smile). His second wife, mother to his now-teenage
son, had died in a car accident years earlier. Enter: a long-forgotten
intrigue about babies mixed up at birth. Chabrol's pleasures are some
of the most civilized in moviegoing. Witty, elegant, and endless
playful, "Merci pour le chocolat" is the work of a master. Hitchcock
and Lang are smiling somewhere.
"Merci pour le chocolat" opens Friday at the Music Box.
